Wow... I really loved reading about all the books you hated and why. It was just so refreshing to read about your opinions and as a queer Asian I basically agreed with all your points anyway 😭
It kinda sucks to dismiss one of the most interesting and challenging books recently written by a trans woman after fifteen pages! TBH the way you dismiss Rumfitt and Mattia feels pretty transmisogynistic.
…. Transmisogynistic to not like a book? If I was dismissing them on the grounds of being written by trans women, that'd be one thing, but as I said: Rumfitt’s rape line in her introduction put me off and with Mattia, I simply didn't vibe with the writing style. Don't let's be silly and dilute the meaning of words.
I’m not diluting the meaning of words and I feel seriously dismissed as a trans woman here. Reducing Alison’s project to “white queer people consider rape sexy” is fucked up and yes, is a transmisogynistic dog whistle - it is a trope that we are sexual predators - and you literally did not engage with Aurora’s work at all. She *is* saying something beautiful and new in a new and beautiful way! You just didn’t read the book!
You also don’t seem to have critically engaged with a positive way with any trans women’s work at all on your blog - even if whiteness is your main sticking point, you could read Shola Von Reinhold. You could read Camila Sosa Villada. Please take what I’m saying seriously and reflect on it.
I really don't know what you want me to do about you feeling dismissed. I didn't vibe with Mattia’s style/wasn't in the mood to read it, and I was put off from Rumfitt's “I want to read/write about werewolves raping vampires” line. Her being a trans woman doesn't stop me from being reasonably annoyed by this. This is really out of my hands, and while I'm…glad you feel valid enough to speak your mind on my page, it's also not really going to change my mind. At all. I don't like Rumfitt's book, Mattia bored me, and you also…don't know what other books I've read. So!
(As an aside I’m sorry for the first comment apparently posting six times - Substack kept throwing an error/not showing it as posted so I clicked reply a few times. My bad and sorry for clogging up your page, wasn’t intentional!)
i love this it’s sort of like a top 10 greatest hits of stuff that sucked
Felt so fun to write like! Actually I do hate many things!!!

I really enjoyed reading this!

Obviously way more than you enjoyed reading all of these books 😭

If this is about Marsha P. Johnson, did he not say in multiple interviews that he considered himself a man?
